Gen Prompt Bingo Round 29

A border of purple flowers with Gen Prompt Bingo Round 29 and the url genprompt_bingo.dreamwidth.org superimposed over it.

[community profile] genprompt_bingo is a low commitment multi-fandom, multi-media bingo challenge.

Its aim is to provide bingo cards of gen-style prompts to be used as inspiration in creating fic, images, meta, fanmixes, vids or any other kind of fannish activities. Although the prompts themselves are "Gen" (i.e., no prompts are specifically about romance or sex) fills may be of any genre, style or rating.

Prompt lists are renewed at the start of December and April. New cards can be claimed then even if a previous card has not been completed.

So that was terrible

Last night, probably around 4 or 5am, I woke up with awful chills. Chills that caused muscle spasms and left me wanting to be put in a coma, because the pain level swung between 7-9. The Stroppy One went and microwaved every buckwheat pillow, put them on me, layered me in blankets, and then took my temperature. Which was normal, so I have no idea why this happened. I did end up having some nausea, but that's probably because I took my Wegovy shot earlier that evening, and I always have nausea the night of.

Oh, and I never got back to sleep. So I'm punchy, kinda-sorta have vertigo, and am in pain because of the terrible muscle cramps last night, all while working! Yeah, the excitement never ends.

---

In shallow capitalist consumption news, we actually went to a mall on Saturday. We didn't want to, but the Stroppy One needed new shoes, so he needed to go to the Dr. Martens store and try things on. While he was doing that, I scooted over to the MAC store and bought the last tube of "Cyber" lipstick that they had. I was waited on by an ADORABLE goth girl, who was all aflutter about my entire look. At one point she made a little bowing action and declared me her queen. That was nice.

After I bought lipstick, I joined the Stroppy One at the Dr. Martens store aaannnnnnnd ended up adding some things to the purchase: the Dr. Martens Elphie II Wednesday shoes and a version of this purse that has a black ruffle around the edge on the front. While I'm trying to use smaller purses because less size = less weight = my shoulders don't get as cranky, I have the pink one of this, and I've learned not to overpack it. Also, it will be super useful for the big company kick-off week-long meeting in January, because I've learned I need to have a decently sized notebook with me at all times.

Good god almighty, I feel terrible.

1SE for November 2025

Apparently I went for a lot of canal walks this month. This was partly because both children were off school for multiple days with a high fever, and I worked from home far more than I’d planned. There are even more cats than usual, too, because I made a lot of new, temporary moggie friends in Cyprus.

Look! I remembered to post before December started this year!

Hello, friends! It's about to be December again, and you know what that means: the fact I am posting this actually before December 1 means [staff profile] karzilla reminded me about the existence of linear time again. Wait, no -- well, yes, but also -- okay, look, let me back up and start again: it's almost December, and that means it's time for our annual December holiday points bonus.

The standard explanation: For the entire month of December, all orders made in the Shop of points and paid time, either for you or as a gift for a friend, will have 10% of your completed cart total sent to you in points when you finish the transaction. For instance, if you buy an order of 12 months of paid time for $35 (350 points), you'll get 35 points when the order is complete, to use on a future purchase.

The fine print and much more behind this cut! )

Thank you, in short, for being the best possible users any social media site could possibly ever hope for. I'm probably in danger of crossing the Sappiness Line if I haven't already, but you all make everything worth it.

On behalf of Mark, Jen, Robby, and our team of awesome volunteers, and to each and every one of you, whether you've been with us on this wild ride since the beginning or just signed up last week, I'm wishing you all a very happy set of end-of-year holidays, whichever ones you celebrate, and hoping for all of you that your 2026 is full of kindness, determination, empathy, and a hell of a lot more luck than we've all had lately. Let's go.

now i'm only falling apart

I am on some time off work, and so far I have been catching up on chores - there is just me in this house, but I STG my washing loads breed when I'm not looking. I have also stripped a load of wallpaper in the hallway, so that I can finally get to painting it! I do not think this will happen before the end of the year, but that's okay, because I have the first (full) week in January off, so I can attempt it then! \o/

I am going to be doing some Xmas shopping tomorrow. Weirdly, it will be for the most amount of people I've ever shopped for in a while: my nephew, my work Secret Santa, and also a friend from work who has been an absolute fucking STAR in the short time I've known her, and she deserves something nice to say thank you.

So that feels kind of strange, but also nice. I like giving presents.

Work continues to be mostly terrible. I'm not going to go into it but stuff is Not Great, and hasn't been for a good while now. I keep hoping things will get better, but I dunno, man.

There's little I can do to change how work is right now, but I am feeling mostly positive about Things In General, and there is still the good thing that I rarely vaguepost about - which is super duper nice. I need to record the good things as well as the shit ones.

And I am playing FFVII Remake, and enjoying it! Although I would like an apology from every single person who complained about FFXIII being too linear* and on the rails, because parts of this are so linear that Aerith has yelled at me MULTIPLE TIMES for wanting to explore a bit. I suppose it makes sense in context - Cloud says he's not familiar with Sector 5 but oh jeez, I just wanted to see what was down this clearly marked dead end!

The only time it actually felt like I was lost was on the way to the Sector 5 reactor, and even that was still pretty damn linear.

(Also am I mad that they implemented the "we all need to do this one thing at the same time" thing? It's slightly less maddening than in the original but OH MY FROG. So yes, yes I am).

(Also also I like that there's at least a couple of running jokes from Advent Children, as well as some of the music from the soundtrack).

~

I think that's all I've got for now - off to make some dinner, I guess!

~

*Hopefully none of you lot!

Description:
A black-and-white cartoon comic follows its creator from their teenage years reading fic in a classroom, through glimpses of canon moments from Doctor Who, The Avengers, and Sherlock, to the experiences of other fans and back to the now-older creator as they muse on their changing opinion of fix-it fic.

Transcript of Comic Text )

Yeah, this got me. I'm a sucker for a good fix-it fic, and it's a storytelling impulse that I feel warmly about in general. I've especially been thinking about this topic lately—and some of the related canon moments—thanks to a bit that hit home in [youtube.com profile] JessieGender1's recent Star Trek Strange New Worlds Is a Centrist Space Fantasy video essay that talked about the storytelling worldviews in which change requires a body count and about the narrative incorporation of ungrievable lives. (Two recs for the price of one in this post!)

This comic is sweet and touching, with great pacing and choice of visuals. I especially love the spot where we see darkness giving way to light and the shots of people writing. It gave me some fuzzy feelings about fandom and encouraged me to open back up a fix-it draft of my own.

- My endoscopy and colonoscopy came back all clear, yay!

- I expected to sleep after coming home from the procedures. AHAHAHAHAHAHA no my body didn't want to cooperate. And I certainly didn't sleep during the hours of drinking the prep solution. I ended up being awake, with the exception of the procedures, for something like 36 hours. 0/10, do not recommend.

- The Madwoman in the Attic, during her usual meandering around the internet, found this fabric. She told me how many yards I needed for the high collar dress, and I gleefully bought some. Glow in the dark bats!

Got my flu and covid shots today. Turns out LA took away the need for a prescription sometime in October. Shout out to the pharmacist who told us.

edit: Having some kind of reaction to one of the shots. I can feel The Flush in my face. Can't tell if I'm pinker because I both took a shower and walked around a store today both of which make me get pinker. Arm sore. No symptoms in mouth/throat and no hives on hands (early symptom places). I have a sharp building migraine, but that could be weather. Currently trying to decide if I'll take my planned single Benedryl or the suggested two (taking two sometimes gives me muscle twitches in my legs). Have phantom pain in shoulder that didn't get shots.
